How to tell which Tawala configuration your sector needs

Every Tanzanian business carries the same national obligations — TRA VFD fiscalisation, PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, SDL, WCF, and a business licence from its local council. What differs by sector is the second regulator, the shape of the working-capital cycle, and the one number that decides whether you are profitable. That is what the configuration follows.

Sectors with a second regulator

  • Pharmacies — TMDA on top of TRA: batch and expiry control, controlled-drug register, and NHIF/AAR/Jubilee claim billing at the counter.
  • Schools — NECTA and the education authorities: fee structures by stream and term, and receipting that survives an audit.
  • Finance and microfinance — Bank of Tanzania and the Microfinance Act: portfolio quality, arrears aging and prudential reporting.
  • Energy and mining — EWURA or the Mining Commission: licence conditions, royalties and site-level cost capture.
  • Construction — CRB, ERB and, for public work, PPRA: contract certification, retention and variation control.

Sectors defined by stock

If your money is sitting on a shelf, the configuration starts with landed cost and stock accuracy. Retail and wholesale lives on multi-branch stock, till-level reconciliation and fast VFD receipting. Manufacturing adds bills of material, work orders and yield. Agribusiness adds district cess, moisture grading and seasonal cash concentration. All three sit on Tawala inventory and purchase management.

Sectors defined by time

If your money is people's hours, the configuration starts with the job or the project. Workshops and garages bill against job cards; ICT and professional services bill against projects, retainers and support tickets. Both need the fully loaded employer cost per hour, which comes out of Tawala HR & Payroll, and both bill from Tawala Projects.

Sectors defined by occupancy and movement

Hospitality is priced per available room-night and carries the hotel levy and bed-night charge on the folio — see Tawala Hotel. Logistics and transport is priced per trip and lives or dies on fuel, tyres and turnaround — see Tawala Fleet. Real estate is priced per lease, with rent rolls, escalations and withholding tax on rent — check the rate with the withholding tax calculator.

Not sure yet?

Start from the compliance you already know you have. If you are not certain whether you must fiscalise, run the EFD/VFD eligibility check; if you employ anyone, the full payroll calculator shows your true monthly employer cost. Both point at the modules you will need first.
