Trusted by Agribusiness Leaders
We used to lose about 15% of our fertilizer stock due to theft and poor records. Tawala helped us track every bag issued to our outgrowers. It paid for itself in 3 months.
The ability to pay our farmers via M-Pesa immediately after weighing has been a game changer. Farmers trust us more, and we get the best quality crop first.

The five things that actually decide an agribusiness's margin in Tanzania
Cess is charged per district, not per company
Produce cess is levied by the district council on crops moved out of the district, and the rate is set locally. A trader buying sesame in three districts and consolidating in a fourth pays three different rates on the same consignment. Cess is a per-tonne cost that belongs in the item cost at the buying post, not in a year-end adjustment — otherwise every margin report you run is wrong by exactly the amount you cannot see. Tawala inventory holds cess, transport and drying costs against the specific lot they were incurred on.
Weight is not weight until moisture is graded
Maize, paddy, cashew, coffee and sesame are all bought against a moisture and grade standard. What the farmer's bag weighs at the scale and what you can legally sell are different numbers, and the difference is your shrinkage. Buying posts that record only gross weight discover the loss at the warehouse, weeks later, with no way to attribute it. Record gross weight, moisture reading, grade and net accepted weight at the point of purchase, per farmer, per bag lot.
Warehouse receipts and the auction system change who owns the stock
Cashew, coffee, cotton and increasingly sesame move through the warehouse receipt system and cooperative unions or AMCOS, with sale at auction rather than at the gate. Stock you have paid an advance against but do not yet legally hold is not the same asset as stock in your own store, and treating them alike is how agribusinesses overstate their balance sheet. Keep deposited lots, advanced lots and owned lots as distinct stock states.
Out-grower advances are lending, and lending needs a ledger
Seed, fertiliser, agrochemical and cash advances issued to out-growers before harvest are recoverable against delivery. Without a per-farmer running balance, recovery at buying season is a negotiation instead of a deduction. Track advances against farmer records in Tawala CRM and net them automatically at purchase.
Processing changes your tax position
Unprocessed agricultural produce and processed food are treated differently for VAT, and processed food additionally brings the Tanzania Bureau of Standards and TMDA into scope, along with batch coding, labelling and traceability obligations. Export consignments need a phytosanitary certificate and, for regulated crops, board clearance and levies. The moment you move from trading to processing, your compliance surface changes — model the VAT effect with the Tanzania VAT calculator and keep batch traceability in Tawala Manufacturing.
One season of cash, twelve months of cost
Buying season concentrates almost all outflow into a few weeks while receipts arrive after auction or after export payment. Payroll, fuel, storage and loan servicing do not pause. A rolling cash position — not a year-end P&L — is the report that keeps an agribusiness solvent; build it with the 12-month cash flow forecast and run it live in Tawala Finance.
