DAWASA Water Bill Estimator

Estimate your DAWASA water bill in Dar es Salaam. Domestic, institutional, commercial and industrial tariffs.

1 m³ = 1,000 litres. Average household uses 10–25 m³/month.

How DAWASA bills

DAWASA is the Dar es Salaam Water Supply & Sanitation Authority. Tariffs are set by EWURA and have three components: water consumption (per m³), sewerage (a percentage of the water charge), and a flat service charge per connection. VAT 18% is added on the subtotal.

Tariff categories

  • Domestic / Household: ~TZS 1,850/m³ — the standard residential tariff.
  • Institutional: Schools, hospitals, government — slightly higher per-m³ but with discounts on the sewerage portion in some cases.
  • Commercial / Industrial: ~TZS 2,360/m³ — full commercial rate.
  • Water Kiosk: ~TZS 1,100/m³ — subsidised tariff for public-tap operators serving low-income areas.

How much water does a household use?

  • 1–2 person flat: 5–10 m³ per month.
  • 4-person family, no garden: 10–20 m³.
  • 4-person with garden + car-wash: 25–40 m³.
  • Restaurant / hotel (per room): 1.5–3 m³ per night.

Cut your water bill

  1. Fix dripping taps — a single drip wastes ~5 m³ a month.
  2. Dual-flush toilets — saves 30%+ on toilet water.
  3. Rainwater harvesting — 50 L/m² per heavy rainfall day in Dar.
  4. Reuse "grey water" — laundry water for gardens and outdoor cleaning.

Sewerage charge

Sewerage is calculated as ~40% of the water charge for connections inside the DAWASA sewer network. If your property is on a septic tank, you pay only the water charge — confirm your connection type with DAWASA.
