A printable Lipa Namba sign with a QR code

This tool makes a printable sign for your counter, table, vehicle, invoice or business card. It shows your business name, network and Lipa Namba in large type, together with a QR code. Be clear about what the QR code is: it holds plain text (your business name, network and number), not an official scan-to-pay code. A customer who scans it with a phone camera sees that text; the M-Pesa app will not fill in your number from it. Customers still pay by entering the number, for M-Pesa through *150*00# → 4 → 1 → 1, then the Lipa Namba, the amount and their PIN.

For real scan-to-pay, Vodacom says Lipa kwa Simu uses an enhanced QR code that removes the need to type the till number. Ask Vodacom for that official QR when you open your Lipa Namba (Vodashop, call 100, or merchantbackofficesupport@vodacom.co.tz). The QR image on this page is generated by a third-party QR service (api.qrserver.com), so the text you enter is sent to that service.

Networks supported

• M-Pesa Lipa Number — Vodacom merchant till.
• Mixx by Yas (Tigo Pesa) — Yas merchant number.
• Airtel Money — Airtel merchant number.
• Halopesa — Halotel's mobile money service.
• M-Pesa Pochi la Biashara — for small traders who collect on their own M-Pesa number while keeping business and personal money separate.

How customers pay a Lipa Namba

1. The customer reads the Lipa Namba on your sign.
2. On M-Pesa they dial *150*00#, choose 4 (Lipa kwa M-Pesa), then 1 (Lipa kwa simu) and 1 (Weka Lipa Namba).
3. They enter your Lipa Namba, the amount and their PIN.
4. You and the customer both receive an SMS confirmation. Vodacom says Lipa kwa Simu also accepts payments from other networks and banks.

• Counter / till — laminated A5 print.
• Restaurant table tent — A6 stand.
• Boda boda fuel tank, taxi dashboard, daladala interior.
• Invoice + receipt footer.
• Business card back side.
• Vehicle wrap / shop window.

Fees to know about

• The customer pays normal charges. Vodacom's Lipa kwa Simu FAQ says a customer paying a Lipa Namba is charged its normal charges. It does not publish a separate amount, so the customer should check the fee on the confirmation screen before entering the PIN.
• Merchant fees are not published online. Before you sign up, ask Vodacom in writing whether there is a fee per payment received, and what it costs to move money to your bank, to your M-Pesa number or to withdraw at an agent.
• Reconciliation: Tawala POS records each Lipa Namba payment against the sales receipt.

Jinsi ya kupata Lipa Namba ya M-Pesa

Managing your Lipa Namba ("lipa number M-Pesa login")

There is no single login website for merchants. Vodacom offers three ways in:

• USSD *150*00# for the basics: move money to the owner's M-Pesa number (1), withdraw at an agent (2 → 1), see the last 5 transactions (4 → 2), request a statement (4 → 3) or change the PIN (4 → 4).
• M-Pesa Business App, which Vodacom says needs no data bundle.
• M-Pesa web portal, requested by downloading and filling in the application form on Vodacom's Lipa kwa Simu page.

To let staff see payments without knowing the PIN, add their numbers for SMS notifications through *150*00# → 5 → 1. Only the merchant can ask for a Lipa Namba payment to be reversed, so a customer who paid the wrong number should call 100.

What is the M-Pesa code in Tanzania? The M-Pesa menu code in Tanzania is *150*00#. Customers paying a merchant choose 4 (Lipa kwa M-Pesa), and merchants manage their Lipa Namba from the same code. For Mixx by Yas and Airtel Money merchant numbers, this tool makes the same printable sign, but if you want an official scan-to-pay QR for those networks, ask the operator that issued your merchant number.

Lipa Namba, Pochi la Biashara or Paybill?

• Lipa Namba (Lipa kwa Simu) — a separate merchant number for shops and counters. It accepts payments from other networks and banks.
• Pochi la Biashara — collect on your own M-Pesa number while keeping business and personal money separate. It suits small traders.
• M-Pesa Business (C2B) account — the Paybill-style option for registered organisations that collect bills or fees. Apply by email to m-pesabusiness@vodacom.co.tz. Vodacom says it does not currently accept payments directly from other networks.
