NSSF Pension Projection (40-Year Forward)

Project your NSSF retirement pension at age 60 from current age, salary and growth assumptions.

What will my NSSF actually pay me at 60?

The NSSF Act sets the formula: at retirement (60, or 55 early-access) a member receives a lump sum + monthly pension based on the contributions accumulated plus credited investment returns. The NSSF Investment Committee targets ~7–9% annual return on the fund's portfolio (mostly fixed income, real estate and equities).

The simple model this tool uses

  1. 20% of your gross salary (10% employee + 10% employer) goes to NSSF every month.
  2. The fund credits ~8% annual return (configurable).
  3. Your salary grows at ~5% per year (configurable — wage inflation in TZ has averaged 5–7%).
  4. At retirement, the accumulated balance is converted to a lump sum + monthly pension. We approximate the monthly pension as balance ÷ 180 (a 15-year annuity-style payout commonly used by NSSF).

What's the "replacement ratio"?

This is your NSSF monthly pension as a percentage of your final salary. For most Tanzanians it lands around 30–45% — meaning you'll need to save additionally outside NSSF to maintain your lifestyle. The international target is 60–70%; private pensions, voluntary NSSF top-ups, real estate or compound-interest deposits cover the gap.

How to boost your retirement

  • Make voluntary additional NSSF contributions — tax-deductible up to the cap.
  • Don't withdraw early — even a 5-year break dramatically lowers the final pot.
  • Open a complementary savings account — see the Compound Interest Calculator.
  • Buy a rental property — see the Rental Yield Calculator.

Disclaimer: This is an estimate based on assumptions. The exact NSSF entitlement depends on the Pension Act formula at the time of retirement, contribution history, salary records and credited fund performance. Confirm with NSSF directly via their member portal or the nearest NSSF office before making decisions.
