The legal cost of marrying in Tanzania is small — about TZS 30,000 in RITA fees. The cultural cost can range from a few hundred thousand to tens of millions depending on community expectations, guest count and venue tier. Legal options under the Law of Marriage Act

• Civil marriage — registered directly at RITA (Registration, Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency).
• Christian marriage — celebrated by a licensed minister; certificate registered at RITA.
• Muslim (Islamic) marriage — celebrated by a Sheikh; registered at RITA.
• Customary marriage — under tribal/clan law; can also be registered with RITA for legal protection.

Typical Tanzanian wedding cost components

• Pre-wedding events — kitchen party, send-off, traditional bride-price (mahari) — varies widely by community.
• Religious / civil ceremony — TZS 100,000–300,000 inclusive of officiant.
